A common problem in many households are bad odors and smells. There are plenty of things that cause these odors, but regardless of why these bad smells are there, you want to get rid the problem right away.

There are many quick and simple steps you can take things to eliminate bad odors in drains. Thankfully, many of them are easy to do.

Physically clean out the drain.
Sometimes a drain clog is causing the disgusting scent. The obstruction may not be causing a noticeable slow down for your sink, but hair, slime, and other clogging agents can create some powerful odors.
You can clear out the drain pretty easily through a few different methods including snaking out the drain or using a coat hanger. If the stinky drain has a stopper, pulling out the plug and cleaning it should be enough to take care of the issue.

Clear out your drain.
There are natural solutions you can make to safely clean away any gunk or grime as well. Whatever you do, don’t use caustic chemical drain cleaners; they are dangerous and could damage your pipes.
One solution you can try involves baking soda and vinegar. This mixture can help to clean away the grime responsible for the scent. A mix including approximately 1/3 cup of baking soda to about 1/3 cup of vinegar, according to one recipe idea, should do the trick. The mixture will start to fizz, and you should immediately pour it into the smelly drain. Flush the drain out with hot water after leaving the solution in the drain for anywhere from an hour up to eight.
Pouring boiling water alone into a drain can be effective in clearing away any residue responsible for bad odors. Take a kettle full of boiling water, and pour it down into the drain bit by bit, letting the first pour work away at the grime for a few seconds before pouring more.
